# St Paul, Rhosesmor

St Paul’s Church stands in a walled churchyard in the centre of Rhosesmor, Flintshire. It is a Grade II High Victorian village church of 1874–76 by John Hill, in the Church in Wales parish of Caerfallwch and the Diocese of St Asaph.

## Overview

Cadw records a church built in 1874–76 by John Hill; Mrs J. Strutt Bankes of Soughton Hall laid the foundation stone in 1874. The new parish of Caerfallwch was created on 23 October 1876 from part of the township of that name in Northop parish; the church was consecrated on 21 April 1876. The building is lancet style: nave and apsidal chancel under one roof, of snecked stone with freestone dressings and a slate roof, with a gabled west bellcote. A gabled south porch has pairs of lancets; the apse has five lancets.

The nave has moulded crown-post trusses with painted inscriptions on the tie beams. The font, given in 1907 by the Duke of Westminster, is marble in Perpendicular style. Three chancel windows of the Nativity, Crucifixion and Ascension are by Ballantine, about 1865, possibly brought from another church. Cadw lists the church as a simple high-Victorian village church with good interior detail and associations with local landowners.
