# Plymouth Methodist Central Hall

Plymouth Methodist Central Hall stands on Eastlake Street at Drake Circus in the city centre, a Methodist church and venue occupying the former Ebenezer Wesleyan chapel.

## Overview

The Dictionary of Methodism and related chapel histories record that Plymouth Central Hall was converted in 1940 from the Ebenezer Wesleyan Methodist chapel of 1815 in Eastlake Street. It was the last such Central Hall to be opened, and the interior was completely redesigned. After the Guildhall was destroyed in the Plymouth Blitz the building served as a temporary civic centre.

The hall remains in use for worship and as a city-centre conference and events venue, with cafe and community rooms. Later refurbishment has included a redesigned entrance lobby. The building is not on the National Heritage List for England.
