# Trinity Church of the Nazarene, Perth

Trinity Church of the Nazarene on York Place, Perth, is a Category C listed church of 1858–59 by the Perth city architect Andrew Heiton Junior, built as York Place United Presbyterian Church and now used by the Church of the Nazarene.

## Overview

Historic Environment Scotland (LB51362, designated September 2009) describes a symmetrical, gabled French Gothic church with a pair of set-back, angle-buttressed square towers under tall pyramidal slated roofs. The fabric is squared, coursed and tooled sandstone with ashlar margins and rubble to the rear, with hoodmoulds, moulded architraves and round-headed or segmental-arched windows. A low coped rubble boundary wall and panelled gatepiers face York Place. The listing notes that the bellcast tower roofs are an unusual, French-flavoured feature in Scottish church architecture.

The church cost £2,000 and seated 800. In 1937 it became Trinity Church after union with Perth’s East Church; in 1982 that congregation united with St Leonard’s-in-the-Fields, and the building passed to the Church of the Nazarene. A 2025 internal refurbishment has been supported by the Benefact Trust and the Garfield Weston Foundation. Scottish listings are recorded on Historic Environment Scotland, not as a Historic England or Cadw list-entry URL.
