# Our Lady Star of the Sea, Amlwch

Our Lady Star of the Sea and St Winefride is a Grade II* Roman Catholic church on Bull Bay Road (the A5025), Amlwch, Anglesey, in the Diocese of Wrexham.

## Overview

Cadw records a Catholic church of 1932–37 designed by Giuseppe Rinvolucri, an Italian architect who settled in north Wales and also designed churches at Abergele and Porthmadog. The church was opened in 1937 by Bishop McGrath of Menevia. The structure is experimental reinforced concrete, loosely in the form of an upturned boat, with parabolic arches; Coflein notes porthole windows to the crypt. The west front originally combined coursed rubble with a concrete upper stage and a star window; the rubble plinth was later rendered. The church closed in the late 1990s and again in 2004 because of concrete decay, was listed in December 2000, restored, and reopened and rededicated by Bishop Regan of Wrexham on 1 May 2011. The Oblates of Mary Immaculate have had charge of the church since 1941.
