Overview
Historic England records a Nonconformist (Wesleyan) chapel founded in 1784, enlarged in 1814, internally remodelled in 1844, refenestrated in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and with the exterior rendered probably in 1905 (NHLE 1115115; listed 14 October 1991). The building is rubble with unpainted render or stucco, rustication to the ground floor, and a dry slate roof. A complete interior of about 1844 includes grained box pews, a horseshoe gallery on slender Ionic columns, and a bowed pulpit. Late-nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century stained glass includes figures of Wesley, Bunyan and Wycliffe. Memorials include a First World War tablet and a commemorative corner to the lost Penlee lifeboat and her crew. The chapel is in the West Cornwall Methodist Circuit; it has been closed for major restoration, with Phase 1 reported as due in November 2026.
