Overview
The Dictionary of Irish Architects records a new church in Perpendicular Gothic style of 1884–87; tenders were invited in April 1886 and the building opened in May 1887, with Fitzpatrick Brothers as contractors. Stone Database NI describes a Gothic church with nave and an octagonal tower on the north-east corner, a stairway to the main door in the tower, red sandstone dressings to Scrabo sandstone walls, and a large rose window in the nave gable. The congregation was established in 1871 and met in several earlier locations before moving to University Road. The sanctuary contains a nineteenth-century pipe organ and memorials to congregation members, including those who died in the Second World War. Wheelchair access is via the Lisburn Road hall entrance and a lift; the University Road gate leads up stairs.
