# Holy Trinity, Marcross

Holy Trinity is a Grade I Church in Wales church in the centre of Marcross, Vale of Glamorgan, in the Diocese of Llandaff.

## Overview

Cadw dates the church from the mid twelfth to the fourteenth century; the saddleback tower is likely to have been rebuilt above the ridge in the seventeenth century. Kempson and Fowler restored the building in 1892–93, re-windowing and re-roofing it. Walls are largely rendered local lias limestone rubble, with Bath-stone windows of 1893 and Welsh slate roofs. The plan is nave with west tower and south porch, and a lower chancel.

The south porch has a round-headed entrance arch of about 1150 with billet moulding on grotesque heads. The twelfth-century chancel arch is semi-circular, with roll moulding breaking into four chevrons in the head. Cadw records a moulded tomb recess of about 1300, a font of about 1200 with roll mouldings, an upper rood door, and a Sutton-stone grave slab of about 1200 reset in the chancel floor in 1893. The church is listed as a largely complete early medieval building that has retained its character. The earliest documentary reference is 1254.
