Overview
Historic England lists the Methodist Church, forecourt walls and steps (list entry 1311015, designated 9 October 1987). The listing records a Wesleyan chapel, forecourt and steps of 1893. The front gable end is dressed granite brought to course with granite dressings; the sides are rock-faced granite, under a dry Delabole slate roof with a brick chimney over the rear gable. The plan is rectangular and aisle-less, with galleries; the ritual east end is at the north, with an entrance hall and flanking stairs at the south. The style is Gothic. The symmetrical three-bay south entrance front has weathered buttresses with pinnacles and a cruciform finial over the coped gable. A pair of central pointed-arched doorways sits within a round outer arch; the first floor has a central window of two paired pointed lights with a rose window over, and Y-traceried wooden windows.
In front of the entrance, two L-plan flights of granite steps flank a wide landing with a square granite-coped balustrade and memorial niches. Cruciform-headed granite gate piers adjoin the road. Mapping Methodism notes that a new chapel was built on Fore Street around 1893, across the road from an earlier Wesleyan chapel which then became a Sunday school, and that the building became Fore Street Methodist Church after the 1932 Methodist union. It remains in regular use and is served with other churches in the Lizard and Mounts Bay circuit.
