# St Elli, Llanelli

St Elli’s (St Ellyw) on Bridge Street, Llanelli, is a Grade II* Church in Wales parish church in the Diocese of St Davids, the historic parish church of the town, opposite Llanelly House.

## Overview

Cadw lists the Parish Church of St Ellyw (reference 11888, designated 30 November 1964) for an interior of exceptional fittings and monuments. The west tower is medieval, possibly fifteenth-century; the nave, porch, transepts, chancel, north-east chapel and south-east organ chamber and vestry are of 1905–06 by G. F. Bodley of London. The fabric is rock-faced rubble with red sandstone dressings, stone-coped gables, green slate roofs and terracotta ridge tiles. The Bro Lliedi parish site records a first documentary reference in the Book of Llandaff in 1086, a silver chalice presented in the reign of Elizabeth I, and later memorials including Stepney and Mansel monuments. Cadw notes a painted Hanoverian royal arms over the tower arch. The 1911 lychgate is listed separately at Grade II (Cadw 11889).

The church is in the United Parish of Bro Lliedi.
