Overview
Historic England lists the Church of Saints Gregory and Cuthbert (list entry 1151363, designated 23 June 1966). Pevsner records a rebuild of 1868 by Fowler Jones of York on the site of the previous church. The listing describes rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and Welsh slate roofs: a two-stage west tower, four-bay nave with north aisle and south porch, and a lower two-bay chancel with north vestry, in Decorated style. The tower has corner buttresses, a south-east vice with a small attached stone spire, a two-light west window below a band of three coats of arms, louvred belfry openings, corner gargoyles and a pyramidal roof.
The gabled south porch incorporates medieval carved stones, and the porch interior holds four medieval grave covers and the circular head of a medieval cross. Fittings include a probably sixteenth-century font and a probably twelfth-century circular font. Pevsner notes an 1898 east window by Kempe. There has been a place of worship on the site for many centuries; the present church is reached by a footbridge over the railway, with Kildale station a short walk away.
