Overview
The listing records a church of 1865, patron the Duke of Buccleuch, on land given by John Todd. It was dedicated on St Peter’s Day, 29 June 1865. The name “Iron Church” refers to building funded in part from local iron-mine profits as Askam grew. The plan is a four-bay nave with north porch and a north-east bell-tower with slated pyramidal spire, and a lower two-bay chancel with south vestry, in rubble limestone with red sandstone dressings. Fittings are contemporary pitch pine; the nave has scissor-braced trusses. The east window, showing St Peter, Christ in Majesty and the Virgin, is by Shrigley and Hunt.
Historic England listed the church Grade II on 20 December 1993 (list entry 1292088). It is served with Dalton-in-Furness.
