# Immanuel URC, Swindon

Immanuel United Reformed Church on Upham Road, Old Walcot, Swindon, is an unlisted 1930s Congregational church, now URC, designed by H. Rogers Houchin.

## Overview

The congregation’s history page states that Immanuel opened for worship on 13 September 1939, ten days after the declaration of the Second World War. It was built as a Congregational church and joined the United Reformed Church in 1972. In 1969, with Christ Church and Bath Road Methodist Church, it signed a covenant forming what the church describes as among the oldest ecumenical partnerships in the country. The National Churches Trust describes a cruciform plan with ‘transepts’ used as choir and organ space on one side and a prayer area on the other; Houchin used natural red brick for the lower walls, plastered cream upper walls, and light oak panelling, pews, lectern, pulpit and communion table. No Historic England list entry has been found for the building.
