# St Eustace, Ibberton

St Eustace is a Grade II* parish church on a steep hillside south of Ibberton, Dorset, in the Diocese of Salisbury. Historic England lists the main fabric as fifteenth-century, with a sixteenth-century north aisle, some seventeenth-century work, and a major restoration of 1903 by C. E. Ponting.

## Overview

The church is of banded rubble and flint with ashlar quoins and dressings; the west tower is squared dressed rubble and ashlar, under tiled roofs with stone copings. The plan comprises a nave with south porch, chancel, west tower, north aisle and north chapel. The two-stage tower has diagonal buttresses, a north vice, a Tudor-arched west door and an embattled parapet. Windows include two- and three-light panelled tracery under square heads; the east window of 1903 has intersecting tracery.

The interior retains a fifteenth-century stone font and eighteenth-century wall monuments. The nave and chancel have arch-braced collar-beam roofs. The building had fallen into decay by the late nineteenth century before Ponting's restoration. Dorset Heritage Explorer notes a flight of steps up the slope and Stachy's Well below the church, a local form of the dedication to St Eustace (Eustachius).
