# Hull Minster

Hull Minster, formerly Holy Trinity, is the Grade I parish church of Kingston upon Hull, on South Church Side, in the Diocese of York. It was renamed Hull Minster on 13 May 2017.

## Overview

Historic England dates the fabric mainly to 1300–1425: transepts 1300–20, chancel 1320–60, nave 1389–1418 and tower about 1500, with later vestries. The church is brick and ashlar with ashlar dressings and lead roofs, planned as nave and chancel with aisles, transepts, crossing tower, south porch and south chapel. The east end has a seven-light window flanked by five-light windows with flowing tracery. The brick transepts are among the finest medieval brickwork in England. Restorations were by H. F. Lockwood in 1841–45 and Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1859–72.

The church is widely described as the largest parish church in England by floor area. William Wilberforce was baptised here in 1759. It became a minster in a ceremony led by Archbishop John Sentamu on 13 May 2017, after serving as Holy Trinity from the Middle Ages. It is a member of the Greater Churches Group.
