# St Michael & All Angels, Hughenden

St Michael and All Angels is a Grade II* parish church in Hughenden Park, Buckinghamshire, in the Diocese of Oxford, closely associated with Hughenden Manor and Benjamin Disraeli.

## Overview

Historic England records a church originally of the fourteenth century, almost totally rebuilt in 1875 by Sir A. W. Blomfield, in knapped flint with stone dressings and tiled roofs. The plan is a north-west tower, nave, south porch, north aisle, north chapel (now vestry) and chancel, in Decorated style. The three-stage tower has set-back buttresses, a battlemented parapet and a pyramidal roof. The parish history traces a church on the site to Geoffrey de Clinton between about 1100 and 1135, later given to Kenilworth Priory.

The listing notes a thirteenth-century cylindrical font with trefoil arcade, a richly carved marble pulpit of 1891 with archangels in ogee niches, and nineteenth-century glass including a Disraeli memorial in the east window. On the north wall of the chancel is Queen Victoria’s monument to Disraeli (1882), with a profile carved by R. C. Belt — the only known memorial from a reigning monarch to one of her subjects. Disraeli, who bought Hughenden Manor in 1848, is buried in the family vault by the west wall. The north chapel holds medieval knight effigies and early sixteenth-century slabs associated with the Montfort and Wellesbourne families.
