# Holy Trinity, Teigh

Holy Trinity on Main Street, Teigh, Rutland, is a Grade II* Georgian Gothic parish church of 1782 by George Richardson for Robert Sherard, 4th Earl of Harborough, in the Diocese of Peterborough.

## Overview

Historic England lists a church of 1782 with part of a thirteenth-century tower, by G. Richardson for the Earl of Harborough. The fabric is ashlar with a small section of coursed rubble and a parapetted lead roof. The four-stage west tower has a thirteenth-century first stage with west and south doors; the rest of 1782 has two tiers of Decorated bell openings, a frieze, battlements and pinnacles. Nave and chancel are combined under one roof in three bays, with angle buttresses ending in pyramids. The west door leads to a circular vestibule with a plaster vault, then under a three-decker west pulpit into the nave.

Pews of original pine rise in three tiers facing the aisle, as in a college chapel. The west wall has a Strawberry Hill Gothic oak pulpit in a canted oriel over the passage, with a trompe-l'oeil window behind. An oak reredos has an altarpiece of the Lord's Supper attributed to Otto van Veen. A shallow plaster nave vault bears Harborough and Royal Arms dated 1789. The Victoria County History notes that an earlier church was removed except the tower base. There are no regular advertised opening times.
