# Holy Trinity, Rothwell

Holy Trinity on Squires Hill, Rothwell, Northamptonshire, is a Grade I parish church with a rare medieval ossuary, in the parish of Rothwell with Orton, Diocese of Peterborough. D1 and the postcode NN14 6BQ identify this church, not Holy Trinity at Rothwell in Yorkshire.

## Overview

Historic England records a parish church of the twelfth to early sixteenth centuries: ironstone with limestone bands and dressings and lead roofs; west tower, nave with clerestory, north and south aisles with porches, Lady chapel, south chapel, chancel and sanctuary, and a crypt. The three-stage west tower is about 1225 and fourteenth-century. The spire collapsed in 1660; the transepts were cut down in 1673. The chancel was restored in 1848 and the rest in 1893–1910. The church was founded by Earl Roger de Clare and passed to Cirencester Abbey in 1133. Beneath the south aisle a vaulted charnel chapel holds one of only two remaining in-situ medieval ossuaries in England (the other is at St Leonard, Hythe). Listed Grade I on 12 June 1950 (NHLE 1288778).
