# Holy Trinity, Plaistow

Holy Trinity on The Street, Plaistow, West Sussex, is an unlisted Church of England chapel of ease of 1853–54 by Joseph Butler, in the parish of Kirdford with Plaistow, Diocese of Chichester.

## Overview

Sussex Parish Churches records a medieval chapelry of Kirdford. A chapel existed by 1520; the earlier half-timbered Chapel of St Thomas burned about 1850. Butler, who had worked with R. C. Carpenter at Chichester, replaced it in 1853–54 at a cost of £1,500. The church is weathered local sandstone in thirteenth-century style, with a relatively long chancel, wooden belfry and slender spirelet, lancets, and a west window with simple geometric tracery. The Chichester conservation-area appraisal notes sandstone elevations, a clock tower and tall lancet windows. It was dedicated to the Holy Trinity in 1856; modifications followed in 1882, a clock in 1887 for Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee, and a single bell in 1909. It remains a chapel of ease to St John the Baptist, Kirdford. Historic Churches of Great Britain and the listing search treat the building as not listed.
