Overview

Historic England lists a parish church of thirteenth-century origins, altered in the fifteenth century, much restored in 1894, with roofs retiled in 1976. The fabric is flint with Lincolnshire limestone ashlar dressings. The plan is a west tower, nave, south aisle and chancel. The three-stage tower has diagonal stepped western buttresses, an early-fourteenth-century two-light west window with reticulated tracery, and a crenellated parapet. A gabled south porch has a wave-moulded arch. The four-bay south arcade on octagonal piers dates from 1894. The listing notes a nave roof famous for a 1330 contract, replaced in 1785, and a large octagonal fifteenth-century font. Norfolk Heritage Explorer records that the font, carved with evangelist symbols, was found in a garden at Eye, Suffolk, and brought here in 1902. A gabled twentieth-century vestry stands against the chancel. The church is open daily from 9.30am to 5pm.
