# Holy Trinity, Besthorpe

Holy Trinity is a Grade II parish church on The Green in Besthorpe, Nottinghamshire, in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham and the East Trent group of churches.

## Overview

Historic England lists a parish church of 1844 in brick with Welsh slate and stone slab roofs, stone dressings and coped gables with kneelers. The plan is a nave with apse, gabled south porch and bell turret. The south front has a central porch with a four-centred arched doorway flanked by two-light lancets with Y tracery. The apse has three single lancets. The bell turret has a lancet to each side, modillioned eaves and a pyramidal slab roof with a cross. Southwell Churches records that the building replaced a chapel of ease of about 1535 to St Helena, South Scarle, later used as a school and demolished in the eighteenth century. The new church was aligned north–south, with the altar at the south end; the apse was added in 1897.

Inside, the listing notes a rendered interior, a brick chancel arch with moulded ashlar soffit, and two wood-cased iron columns at the west end supporting the turret. The nave roof has a tie beam with decorative pendants, queen posts and mouchette spandrels. A brick boundary wall with cast-iron railing is included in the listing. In 2014 pews were removed and a link built to the former village hall, now Trinity Hall, giving level access, toilets and a kitchen.
