# Holy Cross, Upper Langwith

Holy Cross is a Grade II* parish church of thirteenth- and fourteenth-century origin on Main Street / Rectory Road, Upper Langwith, Derbyshire. Richard Norman Shaw restored it in 1877–78 and added the bellcote.

## Overview

Historic England lists a church of coursed rubblestone and ashlar with a lead roof: nave and chancel in one, a deep gabled south porch with pinnacles and a four-centred doorway, and a north vestry. The chancel is the oldest part, with a tall chamfered lancet. Most windows are Perpendicular; the three-light east window has nineteenth-century Perpendicular tracery. The west elevation has a full-height central buttress flanked by two-light pointed windows with transoms. Shaw’s double bellcote sits on the west gable. The porch has a pointed stone tunnel vault with chamfered transverse ribs. Font and pulpit are by Shaw.

The church is in the Diocese of Derby, parish of Upper Langwith Holy Cross. Pevsner noted a small fifteenth-century bronze censer. The listing was designated on 8 July 1966.
