Overview
Historic England records an Anglican church of 1901–03 by P. H. Currey (Percy Heylyn Currey of Derby), with a tower by the same architect added in 1911, all in the Free Gothic style. The fabric is randomly coursed rubble gritstone with quoins, coped gables and plain tiled roofs. The irregular plan has a tower toward the east end, a south porch at the west end, a lean-to vestry on the south wall, a shallow north organ transept and a chancel. The two-stage square tower has a polygonal south-west stair turret, coupled two-light belfry windows and ashlar crenellated parapets with crocketed pinnacles.
Wikipedia records that Victor Cavendish laid the foundation stone on 2 November 1901 and that the contractor was W. Wildgoose of Matlock. The church was dedicated on 21 February 1903 by George Ridding, Bishop of Southwell. The tower, completed in memory of William Walker of Holloway, was dedicated on 11 November 1911. The listing text’s “P H Currie” is the Historic England form of Currey’s name.
