# St Nicholas, Hinxworth

St Nicholas is a Grade II* Church of England parish church on Ashwell Road, Hinxworth, Hertfordshire, in the Diocese of St Albans.

## Overview

Historic England records a fourteenth-century tower and battlemented aisleless nave of flint rubble with clunch dressings, altered in the fifteenth century, and a chancel rebuilt around 1830 in chequered red brick with stone dressings. The two-stage west tower has angle buttresses and battlements; the south porch is fifteenth-century. Inside are late-medieval carved wooden corbel figures, canopied niches, a mis-shapen fourteenth-century chancel arch, mid-eighteenth-century pulpit, and brasses including one thought to commemorate John Lambard, Alderman of London (d.1487). The church stands on the site of an earlier building; no priest is recorded at Hinxworth in Domesday. Listed Grade II* on 27 May 1968 (NHLE 1347342); listing NGR TL2373440347.
