# St Michael & All Angels, Hartlip

St Michael and All Angels is a Grade I parish church on The Street in Hartlip, Kent, in the Diocese of Canterbury and The Six benefice.

## Overview

Historic England records a parish church of the thirteenth to fifteenth centuries, with the tower repaired in 1855 and a restoration of 1864–65 by R. C. Hussey. The fabric is flint with rubble and plain tiled roofs. The plan has a nave with aisles, a chancel with north and south chapels, a south porch, and a west tower with a priest’s room. The three-stage west tower has a string course to the parapet and a three-stage octagonal stair turret. A north-west lean-to priest’s or anchorite’s room has steps down to a basement and a chimney.

The interior has a chamfered tower arch and three-bay arcades. An angle piscina in the chancel is heavily restored but retains a late-twelfth-century shaft, square abacus and leaf-carved capital. The listing also notes a reredos of the Last Supper and a black-and-white marble monument with putti in the north chapel. The church is open daily during daylight hours.
