Garsdale Street Chapel

Garsdale Street Chapel is a Grade II former Primitive Methodist chapel on Hawes Road (the A684) at The Street, Garsdale, Cumbria, a little-altered single-cell chapel dated 1841.

Overview

Historic England lists a Primitive Methodist chapel dated 1841: coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and a stone slate roof, a rectangular single-cell building set parallel to the road. The front is symmetrical and plain, a single storey with a central square-headed doorway under a monolithic lintel, flanked at a higher level by rectangular twelve-pane windows with tilting casements in the top tier. A datestone sits above the door. Both gable walls are covered by later buildings; rear fenestration matches the front.

The interior retains five tiers of simple panelled pews rising from the centre to the east gable, facing a simple raised pulpit at the west end, with plastered walls and a flat ceiling. The listing calls it a good, apparently little-altered example of its type. The settlement along the road is known as The Street. The chapel is associated with the Sedbergh Methodist churches.
