# Formby United Reformed Church

Formby United Reformed Church on Church Road is an unlisted congregation church of 1938, founded as Formby Congregational Church in 1881.

## Overview

The first service was held on 22 September 1881 in the Grapes Hotel. A chapel followed on leased land; in 1888 a corrugated-iron church brought from Wood Green, London, was re-erected on the present plot. That tin church was replaced after 1934. The new Congregational building was opened and dedicated on 2 July 1938; a hall opened on 27 September 1971. In 1972 the congregation joined the United Reformed Church on the union of Congregational and Presbyterian churches. The building does not appear on the National Heritage List for England among Formby’s listed churches.
