Overview
Historic England listed the church on 1 November 2023 (NHLE 1487414) as a rare northern work by King, a leading post-war church architect. The dedication to St Nicholas, patron of sailors, and the town’s fishing harbour shaped a bold sculptural design likened to an upturned boat: sheer tower walls, tall copper-clad roofs and triangular dormers read as sails. Inside, trusses rise like ship’s ribs, with red and green port and starboard lights at the crossing. The building was dedicated in 1962 and consecrated in 1987. Brown & Jackson Ltd were the contractors. It remains the parish church of Fleetwood St Nicholas.
