# All Saints, Fleet

All Saints is the Grade II* parish church of Fleet, Hampshire, in the Diocese of Guildford. It was designed by William Burges and consecrated on 29 April 1862.

## Overview

Historic England records a red-brick church of 1862 by Burges: a nave and aisles of six bays (the two western bays added in 1934), a one-bay chancel with apse, and a vestry to the north-east with later extensions including a Lady Chapel of 1958. There is no clerestory; a tall two-bell gabled turret stands at the east end of the nave. Internally, a pointed timber barrel vault is divided by brick arches, with painted yellow and black bands on the red-brick walls. Wikipedia states that Charles Edward Lefroy, secretary to the Speaker of the House of Commons, commissioned the church as a memorial to his wife Janet, at a cost of £3,323.

The west end was extended in 1934 by the Hampshire architect A. J. Stedman (also given as Arthur Stedman), who reset Burges’s circular west window; John Purser added the Lady Chapel in 1958. An arson attack in June 2015 destroyed roofs and much interior fabric. After an eight-year restoration the church reopened in April 2023. The listing notes a canopied medieval-style tomb with effigies of the founder and his wife.
