Overview
The National Churches Trust records that the building was originally put up in 1960 as a church hall for St John, Woodley. Wikipedia states that while Ian Watson was vicar, St John’s planted Emmanuel in 1991 by employing Church Army evangelists Richard and Mandy Priestley. A 2012 parish profile for the Benefice of Southlake St James notes that the building remained in the ownership of St John’s and was used through the week by community groups as well as for worship, and that the plant later sat within a conventional district in a larger Southlake parish.
No listing, architect or detailed fabric description has been found. Local reporting in 2019 described a 1960s building and a fundraising campaign for a neighbourhood centre linked to it. The church is not on the National Heritage List for England.
