Overview
The listing records a nave with low aisles and a chancel with short aisles, in red brick with stone dressings and high-pitched tiled roofs. A wood-shingled fleche stands at the crossing, with a bellcote on the west gable. Inside, a five-bay nave has a west gallery; arcade and gallery piers have rounded corbel-mouldings from which the arches rise. The parish notes that Pevsner called the church idiosyncratic and playful.
The building replaced a temporary iron church. Cherry and Pevsner record a 1907 vicarage also by Caroe to the north. The cost was met from the sale of Wren's St Michael Bassishaw in the City. Stained glass and painted work by Walter P. Starmer are recorded in later accounts. The church stands at the corner of Silver Street and Windmill Road, Upper Edmonton.
