# St Peter, Edinburgh

St Peter's Episcopal Church on Lutton Place, Newington, is a Category A listed Scottish Episcopal church in the Diocese of Edinburgh.

## Overview

Historic Environment Scotland records an Early Geometric church of 1857–67 by William Slater of Slater and Carpenter, London: a five-bay nave with aisles, apse, narthex, a west vaulted circular baptistery, and a tower and spire. Circular granite piers support the arcade; the listing also notes a fine pulpit. Scotland's Churches Trust describes a 56-metre spire diapered with bands of ornament and cinquefoils, a statue of St Peter on the tower by Dorothy M. McKay, and an octagonal baptistery (now the Miller Chapel).

The same account records stencilled roof decoration by G. H. Potts, chancel wall panels of 1890 by George Dobie, a Caen-stone pulpit by Poole, and stained glass by Clayton and Bell and Isobel Goudie. The organ, originally by Frederick Holt (1856), was rebuilt by Scovell (1913) and Rushworth and Dreaper (1959), and completely rebuilt by Geoffrey Coffin of York in 2011.
