# St Peter, Duxford

St Peter’s is a Grade I parish church on Chapel Street, Duxford, Cambridgeshire, in the Diocese of Ely. The dedication is recorded from at least 1275.

## Overview

Historic England records a twelfth-century tower and tower arch, a chancel rebuilt in the fourteenth or fifteenth century (retaining one earlier window), and late-fourteenth-century north and south aisles. Ewan Christian directed a restoration of 1884–91, adding a small north vestry and decorating the sanctuary with marble mosaic by Powell of Whitefriars. Walls are flint and pebble rubble with Barnack limestone and clunch dressings and leaded roofs. The three-stage Norman tower has paired round-arched belfry windows and an eighteenth-century lead-covered spirelet.

Until 1874 Duxford had two parish churches; after the parishes were united, St Peter’s became the sole parish church and St John’s later passed to the Churches Conservation Trust. The wide, low Norman tower arch now houses the organ. The twelfth-century font is a chamfered square bowl on a clunch base. Wikipedia notes east and west glass by F. C.
