# St Andrew, Dundee

St Andrew’s Parish Church on King Street, Dundee, is a Category A Church of Scotland church of 1772–74, the Trades Kirk of the Nine Incorporated Trades of Dundee.

## Overview

Work began on 4 June 1772 and the rectangular-plan church was completed in 1774, built by Samuel Bell from plans of 1769 by James Craig, designer of Edinburgh’s New Town. Palladian detail and a classical steeple mark the Cowgate skyline. The Nine Trades of Dundee promoted the church as a relief for overcrowded burgh kirks; it remains the scene of the Kirkin’ of the Trades. The former Glasite chapel of 1777, the Kail Kirk, is now part of the hall complex. The listing, added on 11 July 1963, covers the church, graveyard, gate-piers, railings and gates.
