Overview

The National Churches Trust records a church believed to incorporate fabric of 1849, substantially remodelled in 1908–9 to a design by J. St John Phillips. The building is recognised by a distinctive cupola with a copper-clad dome. The interior and roof were destroyed by fire in 1976 and repaired shortly afterwards. The church hosts heritage events and remains in regular Methodist use.

The Northern Ireland Buildings Database lists the Methodist Church at 2 Moat Street as Grade B2. A Treasure Ireland repair grant supported roof works. The listing category is B2; the official designation is on the Northern Ireland Historic Environment record, not Historic England or Cadw.
