# St Michael & All Angels, Croston

St Michael's is a Grade II* parish church on Church Street, Croston, Lancashire, in the Diocese of Blackburn and the parish of Croston, Bretherton and Mawdesley.

## Overview

Historic England records a parish church that is probably mainly sixteenth-century, with earlier fabric at the east end and a fifteenth-century tower; it was altered in the seventeenth century, partly rebuilt in the eighteenth, re-roofed and beautified in 1823, and restored in 1866–67. The fabric is squared sandstone. The plan is a massive four-stage west tower, mostly embraced by the nave, with nave and chancel aisles under the same roof. The tower has angle buttresses, an embattled parapet with pinnacles, a moulded pointed west door and a four-light west window. A north doorway displays the Hesketh arms; a battlement above is inscribed that the church was new roofed and beautified in 1823. The north chancel aisle is the Becconsall chapel; the south is the chantry chapel of St John the Baptist.

The Church Heritage Record places the building in the Diocese of Blackburn and the parish of Croston, Bretherton and Mawdesley. The Diocese of Blackburn has noted that the church has appeared on Historic England's Heritage at Risk register because of roof and stonework repairs.
