# Holy Trinity, Coxheath

Holy Trinity is a Grade II parish church in Coxheath, near Maidstone in Kent, in the Diocese of Rochester. Historic England lists it as a hospital chapel of 1883.

## Overview

The listing describes a chapel of coursed ragstone with a slate roof: a nave with lower chancel, aisles, transepts, south vestry, and north and south porches. The nave clerestory has three triangular gables with sexfoil openings; the aisles have six lancets and buttresses. Gabled porches have wood moulding and a blank trefoil. The south transept has an arched window with sexfoil and three trefoliated lancets, an arched doorcase and a gabled bell turret. The east front has an arched window with a circular light and triple trefoliated lancets.

Internally a five-bay nave has an arched-brace and hammer-beam type roof with trefoliated moulding to the spandrels on stone corbels and a quatrefoil frieze to the ridge. A stone chancel arch rests on short marble columns. The chancel has a ribbed roof. Stained glass of 1885 depicts the Crucifixion with a dove and Star of David above. Encaustic floor tiles cover the sanctuary and the middle of the nave; an octagonal stone font stands at the back of the nave. The chapel was built for the Maidstone Union Workhouse and later served Linton Hospital; after the hospital was demolished in 1994 the chapel remained as the parish church.
