# St Peter, Copdock

St Peter’s is a Grade II* parish church on Pound Lane, Copdock, Suffolk, in the Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, standing east of the village beside Copdock Hall.

## Overview

Historic England records a fourteenth- and fifteenth-century parish church restored in 1901 and again in 1909 by Burgess and Brown. The fabric is flint, brick and stone dressings with flint flushwork, under slate and leaded roofs. The plan comprises a three-stage embattled west tower, nave, north transept, south porch, chancel, north chapel and vestry. The tower is fourteenth-century, with diagonal buttresses, a south-east stair turret and a flushwork plinth; the west doorway has orders of ogee and sunk chamfer with a band of shields. The fifteenth-century nave has three-light panel-traceried windows. The flint and brick south porch has a crowstepped brick gable and a late fifteenth-century door of moulded planks and muntins.

Inside, Historic England notes a seven-bay arch-braced nave roof restored in 1901, a restored chancel arch, and a transept chapel of about 1500 with a hollow-chamfered arch banded with shields. The octagonal font has floral and foliate emblems alternating with angels. A west gallery of 1901 includes panels said to be eighteenth-century, among them the arms of the Foster family of Copdock Hall. The ecclesiastical parish is Copdock with Washbrook; St Mary, Washbrook, is separately redundant.
