# Christ Church, Prestatyn

Christ Church is a Grade II Church in Wales parish church on elevated ground east of Prestatyn High Street, Denbighshire.

## Overview

Cadw records that in 1860 parts of Meliden and Llanasa were formed into the new parish of Prestatyn and Nant. The first phase, completed in 1863 to the design of T. H. Wyatt, comprised the nave, tower and spire, and two bays of the north aisle; the contractor was T. W. Chester of Liverpool and the cost £1,374. The original chancel space is now the eastern part of the nave, and the first east window was reused as the Lady Chapel east window. Local history notes that the church was consecrated in May 1863.

The south aisle was added in 1905 and the north aisle extended in 1910, both by Protheroe and Phillpott of Cheltenham. The chancel, Lady Chapel, vestry and organ chamber were completed in 1927 by L. W. Barnard of Cheltenham at a cost of about £7,000. Cadw describes local light-grey rock-faced limestone, yellowish freestone dressings, and graded slate roofs. The heavily buttressed broach-spired tower, entered from the north, dominates the composition. The listing notes that the three architects used different Gothic styles, integrated across the town’s growth as a resort.
