# Christ Church, Mount Pellon

Christ Church is a Grade II parish church on Church Lane, Mount Pellon, Halifax, in the Diocese of Leeds.

## Overview

Historic England records a parish church of 1853–54 by the Bradford partnership of Mallinson and Healey, with later addition of a north aisle, porch and chapel. The lead architect was probably James Mallinson. The contractor was B. Walton and Sons; the cost was £1,360, with a £125 grant from the Church Commissioners. The fabric is coursed dressed sandstone with freestone dressings under a slate roof. The plan is an aisled nave with a south-west tower, north-west porch, and a chancel with south organ chamber and north chapel. The style is a free Decorated Gothic. The three-stage tower has angle buttresses and an embattled parapet; its lower stage is the porch.

Nave arcades have quatrefoil piers with fillets. The church was re-ordered in 1999 when a first floor was added in the north aisle. The Church Heritage Record names the parish Christ Church Mount Pellon in the Archdeaconry of Halifax. The building occupies a commanding hillside site in industrial Halifax and has a densely occupied nineteenth-century graveyard.
