# Christ Church, Greenwich

Christ Church on Trafalgar Road, East Greenwich, is an unlisted Church of England parish church in the Diocese of Southwark. The 1840s church by John Brown and Robert Kerr now serves as a community centre beside a worship space dedicated in 1989.

## Overview

The Diocese of Southwark records a building of 1846–48 by John Brown and Robert Kerr, with the present church dated 1989. It was founded as a daughter church of St Alfege, West Greenwich. Victorian Web, citing Cherry and Pevsner, describes the original as Kentish rag with yellow stock-brick trimmings. The 1840s church was declared redundant in 1987 and partly demolished; the remainder became a community centre (the Forum), with halls, offices and a café inserted on three floors.

The parish now worships in a contemporary space dedicated in 1989 at the east end of the old fabric, with a gallery chapel and a peace garden. Christ Church is one of three churches in the East Greenwich Team Ministry, with St George’s, Westcombe Park, and Holy Trinity, Greenwich Peninsula. The building is not listed.
