# Cawsand Congregational Church

Cawsand Congregational Church on Garrett Street, Cawsand, Cornwall, is a Grade II listed meeting house in the parish of Maker-with-Rame.

## Overview

Historic England lists a Congregational church built for a church formed in 1793, much altered in the later nineteenth century so that any early work is concealed (NHLE 1140673; listed 26 January 1987). The fabric is rendered with a half-hipped slate roof: an auditorium with a deep west gallery and a Sunday school room below. The congregation’s own history records a conveyance of 9 May 1792 for the site (a redundant fort) and an agreement of 28 May 1792 to build a meeting house; the house opened on 19 July 1793 with William Read as minister. The present wider, higher church with gallery was essentially completed in 1884. The listing cites Christopher Stell’s RCHME volume on Nonconformist chapels.
