# Burnett's Hill Chapel, Martletwy

Burnett’s Hill Calvinistic Methodist Chapel, 1.5 km south-west of Martletwy village, is a Cadw Grade II early-nineteenth-century chapel, now a restored historic building and music venue.

## Overview

Cadw lists Burnett’s Hill Calvinistic Methodist Chapel Grade II (reference 19020, 11 November 1997) as a small early-nineteenth-century rural chapel retaining its early character and an unusual interior layout. It opened in January 1813 under the Rev. Theophilus Jones, largely at the initiative of John Allen senior and junior, who contributed stone, lime and haulage for the Landshipping and Martletwy coalfield congregation. Cadw notes extensive mid-nineteenth-century alteration and a renovation in 1890; the raking floor, pews, porch and entrance belong to that later phase. The chapel closed in the 1980s; the Friends of Burnett’s Hill Chapel, with the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and the Heritage Lottery Fund, restored it and reopened it in 2001. The graveyard remains in use.
