All Saints, Briston

All Saints is a Grade II* parish church on Church Street, Briston, Norfolk, in the Diocese of Norwich.

Overview

Historic England describes a largely Decorated church of about 1300 with early nineteenth-century roofs and bellcote. The fabric is flint with some carstone rubble, stone dressings and slated roofs. The plan is now nave and chancel; a north aisle, nave clerestory and west tower have gone. The listing states that the west front was rearranged after demolition of a round tower in 1785, and that a stock-brick bellcote of about 1800 stands in its place. The west doorway and three-light west window have Decorated reticulated tracery.

Inside, a filled-in five-bay north arcade has octagonal piers and double hollow-chamfered arches. The chancel weeps to the north and retains a double piscina of about 1300 and sedilia with cinquefoil ogee arches. The screen is dated 1877. The Norfolk Heritage Explorer notes an iron cello said to have been made by the village blacksmith around 1699–1700.
