# All Saints, Brantingham

All Saints is the Grade II* parish church of Brantingham, East Riding of Yorkshire, standing apart from the village on Dale Road at the foot of a wooded dale. It is in the Diocese of York.

## Overview

Historic England records twelfth-century origins and a large rebuild of 1872 by G. E. Street using old materials, in coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and pantiled roofs. The plan is a two-stage west tower, a three-bay nave with south porch and north and south transepts, and a two-bay chancel. The tower has an ogee-headed lancet, two-light belfry openings, gargoyles and a crenellated parapet with crocketed corner finials. A twelfth-century round-headed south door of two orders has stiff-leaf capitals. Wikipedia notes that the 1872 reconstruction cost £1,900, largely funded by Christopher Sykes.

Surviving earlier work includes the Perpendicular west tower, reused thirteenth-century doorway capitals, a late twelfth-century chancel priest's door, and an early thirteenth-century tub font. There is a memorial to Antony Smethley (d. 1578). Late nineteenth-century stained glass includes windows by Kempe (1899) and C. W. Whall (1906). The church stands almost half a mile north-east of the village centre.
