Overview
Historic England records an ornate late Norman south doorway, a fine thirteenth-century west tower, a thirteenth-century south aisle arcade, a late-thirteenth-century chancel, an early-fourteenth-century north arcade, a fourteenth-century south chapel with an ogee-arched south doorway, an early-sixteenth-century nave clerestory, and eighteenth- and nineteenth-century wall monuments. An eighteenth-century royal hatchment hangs in the south aisle.
The parish website states that Christians have worshipped on the site since the seventh century and that the oldest parts of the present building are Norman, from about 1100, when the church was cruciform with north and south transepts; the nave and chancel were later lengthened. The first recorded vicar was appointed in 1223. The parish is Brackley (St Peter with St James).
