Overview
The church began in 1954 as a Sunday school meeting in what is now the Leaf Academy (formerly Oakmead School). The present hall was built while the West Howe estate was being developed and opened on 13 October 1956 as West Howe Baptist Church, on land allocated by the local council and partly funded from war-damage reparations intended for a church in Portsmouth.
In March 2010 the congregation took the name Cornerstone Church. A 2017 extension and improvement project, reported by the Bournemouth Echo, added a larger foyer, two meeting rooms and wheelchair-accessible toilets, increasing floor area by more than a quarter. The building is not listed.
