# Blessed Virgin Mary, Brompton Regis

The Church of St Mary (Blessed Virgin Mary) at Brompton Regis, Somerset, is a Grade II* parish church with a thirteenth-century tower and a nave of about 1490, in the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

## Overview

Historic England records a parish church with a thirteenth-century tower, the nave rebuilt about 1490 with a north aisle, restorations of 1853 and 1885 (when it was reroofed, the chancel rebuilt and a south transept added), the tower restored in 1895, and the chapel restored in 1962. Materials are random rubble local stone, flat-bedded in the tower, with slate roofs. The plan has a crenellated three-stage west tower, four-bay nave, south transept, south porch, four-bay north aisle and chapel, and chancel. Inside are a Perpendicular arcade with vine-leaf capitals, a rood stair in situ, and a pulpit dated 1625. Listed Grade II* on 6 April 1959 (NHLE 1057978). The Church Commissioners’ name is Brompton Regis: The Blessed Virgin Mary; the legal parish is Brompton Regis with Withiel Florey.
