Overview
The parish of St John the Evangelist was founded in 1841. The earlier church burned in 1941, before its centenary Mass. The present building, by Thomas S. Cordiner, opened in 1961. Scotland’s Churches Trust notes a prevalence of Greek over Latin iconography and the repeated motif of St John. The tabernacle door is by Hew Lorimer and the presidential chair by John McLachlan; the organ is by Rushworth and Dreaper.
