# St Patrick, Armoy

St Patrick’s Church of Ireland church on Glenshesk Road, Armoy, County Antrim, is a Grade B1 First Fruits church of 1820 on an early Christian monastic site, in the Diocese of Connor.

## Overview

Lewis recorded that the church was rebuilt in 1820 with a Board of First Fruits loan of £415. It is a plain Gothic nave-and-chancel building of basalt rubble, fronted by a square battlemented tower with a small spire. A nave bay and chancel with a triple lancet were added in 1846 under the Ecclesiastical Commissioners; Welland and Gillespie directed further works in 1861. The east window of Faith, Hope and Charity is by Henry Holiday for James Powell & Sons.

The graveyard wall follows an early Christian circular enclosure. A tenth-century Irish round tower stands in ruin beside the church. Gloine notes that the 1820 nave and tower incorporate parts of earlier walls. The building is Northern Ireland listed building HB05/05/010 (Grade B1).
