# All Saints, Wing

All Saints on Church Street, Wing, Buckinghamshire, is a Grade I parish church whose nave, north aisle, chancel and crypt survive from the tenth century, one of the most complete Anglo-Saxon churches in England.

## Overview

Historic England records a church originally of the tenth century, probably built for Ælfgifu, sister-in-law of King Edgar. The seven-sided apsidal chancel stands over a crypt with circular tenth-century piers. The south aisle was rebuilt in the fourteenth century; the west tower, clerestory and south porch are fifteenth-century. Restorations took place in 1848–49, 1893–94 and 1939–40. The fabric is coursed limestone and greensand with lead roofs. The three-stage west tower has a battlemented parapet, gargoyles and a large Perpendicular west window.

The polygonal apse and crypt are among the best-preserved Anglo-Saxon liturgical arrangements in the country. The church is in the Diocese of Oxford, parish of Wing. Listed Grade I on 18 October 1966 (NHLE 1320141).
